Stories of Things is delighted to have two artist/scholars present their stories and things on September 24, 2024, 7:00pm to 9:00pm, at the Sketch Yard Art Restaurant near the RAS Reading Room.
Professional photographer, curator and multi-disciplinary artist, Yolanda vom Hagen, will discuss an intriguing advertising tin container designed for the German company Meister, Lucius and Brüning for the Chinese market in the early 20th century. She came across this "thing" in the old Dongtai Road antique market. Many of us remember Yolanda's photographic presentation about the transformation of Dongtai Road in our Beyond City program in 2021.
Documentary filmmaker and ethnologist, Autumn Cui, brings an item from the filming of her most recent documentary, Ethereal Echoes (牛米共). Her "thing" is a piece of animal dung. Dung plays a fascinating and respected role in the spiritual and practical life of the Tibetan people. Come and learn about the many uses of animal dung, as well as Autumn's insights from the making of this documentary.
Beverages and light snacks will be served. Entry for members and friends is rmb100. Non-members is rmb200.
