RAS is pleased to announce the next session of Stories of Things to be held on Saturday, April 27th, from 3:00pm to 5:00. At the kind invitation of the UK Consul General in Shanghai, Matt Burney, the event will again be held at the Consul General's residence.

Our session this time will be slightly different from earlier sessions in that the presentations will be shorter in format allowing for more presenters. Short Stories if you will. Zhang Dasheng will bring a detailed expense book kept by her family almost 50 years ago giving us a personal glimpse into the running of a household at an earlier time. Horticulturist, Kylie Bisman will talk about the ubiquitous plane trees that are just now showing their light green wash above our Shanghai streets. Designer Maxence Lucas will share insights about a few of Shanghai's international settlement iconic elements emanating from a vintage travel bag. Food and drink expert, Kolleen Guy, will bring a bottle of Chinese red wine and talk about ways that Chinese wine culture is narrated, what makes it unique and what makes it a part of the global story. And there may be more!

Please register early as attendance will be limited. Wine, beverages, and an assortment of canapés will be served. Entry for members/friends is rmb100. Non-members: rmb200.

Due to security regulations, the attendee list will be passed onto the consulate in the strictest confidence at least three days before the event. Due to this 3-day requirement, we will need to close registration on 2pm April 23rd, so register quickly.
