We are pleased to advise that the next Stories of Things will take place on June 2, 2023, at the RAS Reading Room and adjacent Habitat Café. . Two exciting speakers will bring their "things" with related stories:

  • XJTLU Professor, Emily Williams, will bring a Cultural Revolutionary paper cut, with a fascinating backstory, from her collection of revolutionary objects. She is the author of Collecting the Revolution and an expert on Chinese revolutionary material culture.
  • Shanghai veteran business executive and philanthropist, Diane Long, will bring half a wooden duilian couplet that she spied on one of her many bicycle explorations of Shanghai. The story involves, in part, the calligraphic inscription by a famous, early 20th-century scholar.
