Karoline Kan's book Under Red Skies is an examination of the generational bonds and divisions of the author's family and the effects of China's changing societal norms and fast-growing economy on common Chinese people. It's a book about the author's family, herself and what it means to be a Chinese millennial. In the event, Kan will talk about the opportunities and challenges facing the Chinese millennial generation today, how her country's history and her family's history have been intertwined and inspired her to be a writer, and what it meant to be a woman at different times in China, through the experience of her grandmother, mother and herself.

Karoline Kan is a Chinese author and journalist. Her debut book, Under Red Skies, Three Generations of Love, Loss, and Hope in China, is the first English memoir written by a Chinese millennial. She is also Beijing Editor at chinadialogue and worked as a reporter and writer at That's Beijing magazine, Radio France International, and The New York Times Beijing office. She won the 2016 International China Journalists Association's award, and the Honorable Mention by The Society of Publishers in Asia Awards for reporting on Arts & Culture in 2019. She is the winner of 2019 Young China Watcher of the Year.
