Acoustic Music Scene in Shanghai
Monday, 4 December 2023
6:45 pm Registration
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
The Royal Asiatic Society China presents an evening of lively conversation on acoustic music scenes in Shanghai. The panel of speakers includes Alec Haavik, Robert Martin, Wang Yu Zhen and Jesse Ouyang. Titus Levi, an Associate Professor of USC-Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry will moderate.
This conversation will delve into a range of key questions:
1. How have presenters, musicians and audiences in Shanghai changed after the collapse/reset in live programming during 2020-2022?
2. How can presenters, musicians and audiences use technology (e.g. streaming) to learn about music, not only changing "what" they listen to, but "how"?
3. How have presenters, musicians and audiences adapted to more "Mainland focused" programming?
4. What issues top the "To Do List" of presenters, musicians and audiences in 2024… and beyond?
5. How can presenters and musical artists forge more collaborative relationships?
6. What pieces of "infrastructure" can presenters and musical artists create together to strengthen Shanghai's music scene?
The panel invites the audience to bring their "burning questions" on these issues into the evening's discussion.
