Lunghua Civilian Assembly Center Walk

From mid-1943 to September 1945 the Japanese occupation authorities interned over 1,900 Allied civilians, men, women and children from the U.S., the U.K., British Commonwealth and other Allied nations in a former teachers' college situated on the current campus of Shanghai Middle School/SHSID. Led by Sven Serrano (RAS China Librarian), we will tour the campus grounds and visit the buildings still standing from the Lunghua Civilian Assembly Center (CAC) era including D, E, and F Blocks, the Dining Room the Guards' and Commandant' quarters, and the Assembly Hall.

Sven Serrano
Sven A. Serrano, RAS China Council Member and Librarian of the.Reading Room is a Historian and a former teacher at Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID). He is an authority on the history of Lunghua Civilian Assembly Center , having worked on the SHSID Campus for 14 years, leading tours of the campus for students, speaking on the former internee J.G.Ballard’s book, Empire of the Sun.
