The RAS is pleased to announce the next film screening: on 8 January, we will watch Spring Fever, directed and produced by one of China's famed sixth-generation directors, Lou Ye (娄烨), who is renowned for exploring controversial topics.

Nanjing, present day, springtime. Wang Ping's wife hires Luo Haitao to spy on her husband and discovers that his lover is a man named Jiang Cheng. She confronts them but only sends her husband into depression and despair. Luo has a girlfriend who works in a local factory; however, when he follows Jiang to his favourite underground rendezvous, he starts to lose control of the situation. Three men and two straight relationships – where are their lives headed and what may be the end of their journeys?

The name of the film is adapted from a story written by a Chinese's novelist and poet Yu Dafu (郁达夫). The original novel is set in Shanghai in the 1920s. Some paragraphs from it are recited in the film to portray a similar mood and theme. The film is a co-production between studios in China and France. It was first released in 2009 and won the Best Scenario Award at the Cannes Film festival. It also won Best Original Music Score and Best Film Editing at 47th Taiwan Golden Horse Award.
