We continue our 2020–21 theme of Creative Ensemble for RAS Art Focus, exploring art outside and beyond the physical parameters of institutional museums and galleries. Through this specially curated series, we seek to explore and expand our notion of what constitutes "art". This month, we will hear from Riki Ding, who is cultivating the art of rooftop gardening. Through a process of self-learning and research, Riki is working with local building owners to transform empty rooftops into sustainable gardens to regenerate and reinvigorate the city. Come join us for a casual boxed lunch as we sit in the lush rooftop garden to hear from Riki Ding to learn how urban spaces can be artistically and positively transformed.

About the speaker:

As a local Shanghainese, Riki graduated from Tongji University with a Bachelor Degree and also holds a Master Degree of Management from University College London. She worked for Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Michael Page before starting her own rooftop initiative. Advocating a positive attitude towards balancing the busy city life and peace of nature, Riki Ding seeks to inspire people to foster permaculture or "permanent agriculture" – an approach to holistic way of living within the natural ecosystem.
