Part 1 – Photography and the Language of Advertising
April is PhotoFairs Month in Shanghai. To coincide, we turn our gaze to the art of photography with an intriguing two-part Art Focus series that will investigate the relationship between image and consumption.
For Part 1, RAS Art Focus will host a special collaboration with the prestigious LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) with a presentation entitled "Objects of Desire: Photography and the Language of Advertising" delivered by Rebecca Morse, Curator in the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at LACMA. This unique lecture was developed by Ms. Morse as part of LACMA's members-only Art 101 program to supplement the exhibition of the same title that she curated. Whether you are an avid photographer or admirer of photographic works, this well-researched study will expand the ways in which you have viewed photography in the past and reveal the expressive techniques artists have employed to extend the possibilities of achieving new vocabularies in advertising.
Please note the lecture is a pre-recorded talk. Due to the time difference, the curator will not be available for Q&A and the session will be moderated by Julie Chun, Art Historian and RAS China Art Focus Convenor.
