Fotografiska Shanghai Unveiled

Sunday, 10 December 2023

2:15 pm Registration

2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Already established in Stockholm (Sweden), Tallin (Estonia), New York (USA), and Berlin (Germany), Fotografiska is the newest contemporary museum to open in Shanghai. Diverting from the conventional format of a municipal or private museum, Fotografiska was formed as a dynamic new investment endeavour by CultureWorks with plans to open additional branches in Asia as well as globally. With a bold innovative vision to highlight contemporary photography, immersive art, and even gastronomy, Fotografiska aims to create a new appeal for the next generation with high-impact visual allure and expanded social experiences with sophisticated food and beverages that are usually not found in museum cafes. Regarding such departure, progressive critics have hailed Fotografiska's new economic experiment as futuristic while institutional museologists have disdained the move as gimmicky. Yet, in recent years, as art encounter become greatly subjective and self-responsive, everyone is entitled to opinions and views about the changing status of art and culture.

Please join us for this very special segment on new perspectives of art in Shanghai. We will be joined by Peipei Han, the Director of Exhibition at Fotografiska Shanghai who will provide an introduction and take us through four floors of the inaugural photography exhibition in the historical warehouse located along the Suzhou Creek. This guided talk will be interactive dialogue allowing for Q&A as we move through the space and exhibition. Please join us for this pertinent discussion and be a part of the conversation.
