Better Angels, a feature documentary on US-China relations by director Malcolm Clarke and producer Han Yi, explores how the world's two largest superpowers are racing towards economic and political conflict, yet find themselves inextricably linked and interdependent by the ongoing bilateral reality of close economic and cultural ties.
The film captures the compelling personal stories and ideological challenges, and explores why these two countries have the world's most important relationship. Join us for a screening of this fine-grained look at the reality of US-China people-to-people ties and for an introduction and discussion with the filmmakers.

Director
Malcolm Clarke is the director of "Better Angels", who with producer Nicholas Reed won the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject) in 2013 for "The Lady in Number 6". Clarke also won the Oscar in this category in 1989 for "You Don't Have to Die" and was nominated in 2002 for "Prisoner of Paradise" in the documentary feature category. He is also the director of "Heart of a Tiger", released in 2015.
Han Yi
Producer
Han Yi is a multiple award-winning film producer of Better Angels, who specializes in international co-production and distribution of China-related independent films. Prior to joining the film business, she was an anchor and news reporter for Sichuan TV and China Central Television. She holds an MA in Journalism from Carleton University. Her work as a producer includes the Internationally-acclaimed "Last Train Home", "China Heavyweight" and "Heart of a Tiger". In 2018 she completed her directorial debut film "In My Eyes", the only Chinese documentary in Official Selection at the 2018 Shanghai International Film Festival.
