Join us on Saturday, November 11, for the launch of Golden Childhood by Shen Yang, featuring an original artwork exhibition.
Born in 1986 in Shandong province, Shen Yang is the author of More Than One Child, where she recounts her turbulent upbringing as an illegal child during the One Child Policy era, handed over to relatives and forced to live in the shadows of Chinese society under someone else's identity. And yet, her troubled childhood had many happy — golden — moments.
If More Than One Child serves as a farewell to both her childhood and an era, Shen Yang's debut illustration book, Golden Childhood, is a vibrant celebration of her fondest memories in rural 1990s China. With 19 standalone chapters and colorful Jinshan folk paintings, Golden Childhood shows the lighter side of growing up in the shadows. In this talk, Shen Yang will share some of these memories and beautiful illustrations and reflect on a childhood that is now worlds away...
This talk is co-hosted by China Crossroads. Crossroads members can sign up directly with Frank Tsai.
