On Wednesday 28 November we are pleased to present the third in our series Stories of Things. In the first two sessions we heard riveting stories about objects as diverse as opium pipe bowls, taxi dancer purses, a 19th century wooden chest found in the trash, and many more!

We already have some fascinating "Things" in store for our November session, including a old wooden lattice piece found in a now vanished lilong by Karolina Pawlik, the red and gold booklet given to Li Nianci's parents at the time of her birth, related to the one-child policy, and an art object that has led architect John Villar to muse on the evanescence of cityscapes. There is still room for more! So if you have a "Thing" that has taught you something about Asia and Asian culture and would like to share, please let us know!

In this group, RAS members can share one object that they are passionate about and relate what stories their object has told them. Even the most modest and inexpensive of things can have rich things to tell us. The purpose is to share and learn. Don't worry if you are not an scholarly expert. This is about your particular relationship with a collected object and thus you are the only expert. The creation of a kind of "intimacy" of sharing among friends is key as well in this process.

Due to limited seating, all guests must R.S.V.P. ahead of the event. Priority will go to RAS members. Non-members will be contacted the day before the event if there is space.
