There are three streams constantly interacting throughout the history of Chinese ceramics: time and place, technology, taste and fashion. We will have on hand ceramics from the Warring States period through the Song as well as a number of shards by which those attending can see and feel the genuine elements of these three streams. Towards the end of this session we will then present pieces intended to deceive – clever fakes – to sharpen awareness and appreciation. This is not a lecture; this is an experience.

About the speaker

Scott Satterfield has lived or travelled and worked in East and Southeast Asian countries for 50 years. He studied Mandarin first at the Mandarin Training Center of Taiwan Normal University, then at the University of Hawaii at Manoa majoring in both Chinese Language and Asian Studies with an emphasis on Chinese history, then went onto graduate studies in the Department of Chinese Literature at the National Taiwan University. He began collecting Chinese antique ceramics in 1995 and is still on the lookout.
