Cities have long served as poetic muses. Homer had his Ithaca, Whitman his Manhattan, Wordsworth his London, and Du Fu his Chang An. Our next Stories of Things speaker, poet and NYU professor, David Perry, has found poetic inspiration in our own Shanghai, specifically the Shanghai Subway system. Armed with his Shanghai Public Transportation Card, David's mission has been to write a poem for each of the (ever increasing!) Shanghai subway stations.

To explore each stop, the poet has used chance theory as laid out in the Chinese classic, Yi Jing (Book of Changes), to help determine his direction and the focus of his attention. Please join us on Sunday, October 25, from 4 to 6pm at the Sketch Yard Art Restaurant. Members: RMB 120; non-members: RMB 200. Includes light snacks and a drink. Excerpts from the poem will be sent to registered attendees before the event.
